CLEVELAND (WJW) — The Cleveland Browns lost to the Baltimore Ravens at FirstEnergy Stadium in heartbreaking fashion during Monday Night Football.

Kicking off at 8:15 p.m. in primetime, the Browns got the ball first and proceeded to roll on down the field. Nick Chubb scored the game’s first touchdown. And the Browns were up 7-0.

Strong first drive… time consuming…using screens well… 3rd opening drive for a td this season.. #Browns up 7-0. Obviously Higgins needs better ball security. Nice way to begin the game for the Browns

The Ravens were able to answer with a touchdown of their own, and score tied.

Starting off the second quarter, Cody Parkey was unable to make a 39-yard field goal, and the score remained tied. But Baltimore was ultimately able to score a touchdown and the score went to 7-14.

Myles Garrett left the game with an injury. He was being evaluated, but the Browns said he is probable to return to the game.

Nick Chubb came through for the Browns in a big way again with a beautiful touchdown. The score is now tied 14-14.

Excellent drive
….big play. Baker to DPJ for 37 yards… Chubb right down Broadway to tie the game 14 all #Browns 75 yards in 7 plays.

At the 2-minute warning, Browns stated with the ball, but were unable to follow through. Ravens got the ball back with about a minute left. Baltimore was able to score, making it 14-21.

And the teams are back at it again, moving into the second half with the Baltimore Ravens easily scoring a touchdown right away, making the score 14-28. But, thankfully, the Browns have an answer with a touchdown from Kareem Hunt, but Parkey missed the extra point. The score is now 20-28.

That was a huge answer by the #Browns offense. Now, they need to make a play on defense.

Baltimore however, got a turnover against Baker Mayfield and was able to score a touchdown making the score 20-34. The Browns then did block the extra point. There the score remained going into the fourth quarter.

Mayfield was able to throw to Rashard Higgins for a big touchdown for the Browns. The score is now 28-34 after an exciting two-point conversion.

Baltimore QB, Lamar Jackson is now out with muscle cramps, the NFL reported, and Trace McSorley is in.

With one of the biggest plays of the game, Baker Mayfield ran in the touchdown making the score 34-34. Parkey got that extra point, too, giving the Browns a one-point lead.

McSorley got injured, but Jackson returned to the Baltimore sideline and then back into the game to quickly score. The Browns got caught looking into the backfield and not watching the receiver. With a two-point conversion, the score is now 35-42.

The Ravens made a field goal, however, and the score is 42-45. The game ended with the Ravens leading the Browns 47-42.

First impressions certainly can be lasting impressions, but that hasn’t been the case with the 2020 Cleveland Browns. The teams’ rematch this season features two teams moving in the opposite direction.

“The outside opinions don’t matter positive or negative,” said Browns center JC Tretter. “If someone wants to come and tell us we are the best team in the world, it doesn’t mean anything when you get in between the white lines.”

The Browns have won four games in a row and five of their last six, and are on the doorstep of a playoff berth for the first time in 18 years. A lot of that credit goes to quarterback Baker Mayfield who has looked like a much different quarterback these past six games.

“As coaches, we are trying to adapt to what we do to our players strengths,” said Kevin Stefanski. “So I’d hope we are playing better ball on offense than we did in the beginning of the season. and we have to continue to do that and I think Baker fits right in there.”

Not the same Browns from Week 1; Cleveland hosts the Ravens in an AFC North clash
In week one, Lamar Jackson carved up the Browns defense to the tune of 38 points, throwing three touchdowns, but the NFL’s reigning Most Valuable Player is coming off the COVID-19 Reserve list after testing positive for the coronavirus on Nov. 26.

“He’s a great athlete so I’m pretty sure he won’t have much drop off as far as that goes and I’m excited, I’m looking forward to competing,” said linebacker BJ Goodson.

The Browns defense has been good against the run this year, ranking in the Top 10 in total rushing yards, but they have struggled with the pass and especially with Baltimore’s tight ends.

“Last game vs. them was kind of like our first game playing together as far as the defense goes, which there are no excuses for it, but we just have to come out and challenge the tight ends better,” Goodson said.

The Browns are a much different team than they were 14 weeks ago, we’ll see if the scoreboard indicates that on Monday.
